You can say a multitude of things about President Donald Trump. If you’re on one side of the aisle, there are plenty of nice adjectives being thrown around. And if you’re on the other side, profanities and frustration seem to be the name of the game. Either way, you can’t say that Donald Trump doesn’t enjoy the spotlight. But HBO just wishes he’d stop using the network’s intellectual property to promote himself.
Today marks the day that the highly-anticipated Mueller Report is released to the general public. And as people pour over its pages, trying to find anything good or bad to say about Trump, the POTUS is using today as a chance to toot his own horn, as he’s known to do from time to time. And as he’s known to do every once in a while, Trump is using someone else’s IP to do it.
This time, he’s gone back to the “Game of Thrones” well to create a banner/image to tout his victory over “The haters and the radical left Democrats” with the Mueller Report showing no signs of collusion. In a tweet, with the image saying “GAME OVER,” utilizing the ‘Thrones’ font, Trump uses a picture of himself, with dramatic smoke, as some sort of self-aggrandizing statement.
HBO saw the use of “Game of Thrones” imagery and released a statement of its own, saying (via Deadline), “Though we can understand the enthusiasm for ‘Game of Thrones’ now that the final season has arrived, we still prefer our intellectual property not be used for political purposes.”
As alluded to, this isn’t the first time that Trump has done this. He’s used ‘Thrones’ imagery before in a pseudo-movie poster talking about international sanctions. And recently, he illegally used the music of Hans Zimmer in some sort of campaign video.
It’s just a matter of time before he discovers that people are obsessed with “Avengers: Endgame” and he co-opts Captain America for promotion. Brace yourselves.
