‘Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones’ Trailer: Morgan Freeman Says The Comedian Is Willing To Risk Everything To Make You Laugh

It’s been over 15 years since the world fell in love with Dave Chappelle thanks to his hugely popular Comedy Central series “The Chappelle Show.” After only three seasons, the comedian became the biggest attraction on the network and was offered tens of millions of dollars to stick around. But then he disappeared. Now, a decade and a half later, he’s fully invested in his comeback, where he somehow seems to be more popular than ever.

Part of that comeback, of course, included roles in films like “Chi-raq” from Spike Lee and last year’s award-winning film “A Star is Born.” But really, what has put Chappelle back in the public eye are the new specials he’s releasing on Netflix, earning him a reported $20 million each. His latest, “Sticks & Stones” seems to be the one that will cement his status as king of stand-up comedy…or completely sink him, if the trailer is to be believed.

Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the trailer for “Sticks & Stones” doesn’t show any jokes from the special, instead using the actor’s Voice of God tone to say that Chappelle is now releasing a stand-up special in an era where comedians are coming under fire for tasteless, offensive jokes. And for Chappelle, apparently, he just doesn’t care.

“Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones” arrives on Netflix on August 26.

Here’s the synopsis:

Unflinching and boundary-pushing, Dave gives his provocative perspective on the tidal wave of celebrity scandals, the opioid crisis, and more — in trademarked Chappelle fashion.
