“Peaky Blinders” is one of those series that keeps going, receiving critical acclaim and a loyal viewership, but doesn’t draw the same sort of excitement and headlines that something like “Stranger Things” or other Netflix series do. For whatever reason, the British period crime series continues to be one of the best things on TV, but for so many people, they won’t even realize it. Hopefully, that changes for Season 5.
As seen in the new trailer for Season 5 of “Peaky Blinders,” the series returns and tackles an issue that many people have read about in their history books, the financial crash of 1929. However, this isn’t some Wall Street view of the event, but instead, the crisis is seen through the eyes of Tommy Shelby, a crime lord that is trying to transition into a legit businessman.
The series features a returning cast that includes Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Kate Phillips, Natasha O’Keeffe, Aidan Gillen, Jack Rowan, Charlie Murphy, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Harry Kirton, Packy Lee, Ned Dennehy, Ian Peck, and Benjamin Zephaniah. Joining the series for Season 5 are Sam Claflin, Anya Taylor-Joy, Brian Gleeson, Neil Maskell, Kate Dickie, Cosmo Jarvis, and Emmett J Scanlan.
Filmmaker Anthony Byrne directs the new season. He’s probably best known for projects like “Love/Hate,” “Ripper Street,” and last year’s film “In Darkness.”
“Peaky Blinders” Season 5 will arrive on Netflix on October 4.
