So far, the men who have been chosen to portray President Bill Clinton in films have been fairly different from each other. Even though it’s not technically Clinton, John Travolta really went for it in “Primary Colors.” And in “The Special Relationship,” Dennis Quaid did his best, though a bit more subdued than Travolta. But neither of them had to tackle the Monica Lewinsky scandal and impeachment. For that, Ryan Murphy, the man behind “Impeachment: American Crime Story,” is looking towards Clive Owen to carry the Clinton torch.
According to Deadline, Owen has been cast as President Bill Clinton in the upcoming limited series ‘Impeachment,’ which, as the name suggests, will cover the era of the President’s reign where he was under investigation after a sex scandal rocks the White House. Owen joins Beanie Feldstein, who will portray Monica Lewinsky, Annaleigh Ashford, playing Paula Jones, and Sarah Paulson, playing Linda Tripp, in the cast.

Owen is a veteran actor that has appeared in a number of films and TV series over the years. For The Playlist readers, he’s probably best known for his work in films such as “Children of Men,” “Inside Man,” and “Sin City,” as well as the TV series “The Knick.” The latter of which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Now that the role of Bill Clinton has been cast, all eyes are going to be on who FX and Murphy cast in the role of Hillary Clinton. The report claims that the series is currently in the process of casting that coveted role, as we speak.

‘Impeachment’ is written by Sarah Burgess and is based on the novel by author Jeffrey Toobin titled “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.” Previously, Toobin’s novel about OJ Simpson served as the basis for the Emmy-winning limited series “The People vs. OJ Simpson,” which was also part of the “American Crime Story” anthology.
Production is expected to begin in March for a late-September 2020 release. However, the report claims that production dates have shifted and the release date could be affected. If so, it could bump closer to the upcoming Presidential election in November 2020.
