Got a Tip?

‘Fargo’ Creator Noah Hawley To Write & Direct The Upcoming ‘Star Trek 4’

Lucy in the Sky” might not have been the awards season heavyweight that filmmaker Noah Hawley was hoping for. But apparently, the astronaut drama was enough to land him another filmmaking gig, and this time he’s going even further into space, as the man who will write and direct the next “Star Trek” feature.

According to THR, Hawley is lined up to write and direct the untitled “Star Trek 4” for Paramount. While we don’t know what the plot for the sequel is going to look like, the report gives us an idea of exactly what the film won’t be.

Hawley’s upcoming “Star Trek 4” is going to see the return of cast members such as Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and the rest of the current folks that make up the crew of the Enterprise. However, this film won’t be the time travel story that director SJ Clarkson was working on previously. And this won’t be the Quentin Tarantino R-rated film that has been in development for well over a year. Whatever Hawley has up his sleeve, it’s going to be a new version of a sequel that Paramount has been trying to get off the ground for years.

When Clarkson was attached to direct the film (which would have made her the first-ever female filmmaker to handle a ‘Trek’ film), the idea was to have a sequel that would bring back Chris Hemsworth as Captain Kirk’s father in a plot that would involve some time-travel shenanigans. Unfortunately, contract negotiations stalled, as the studio was hoping to mitigate costs as much as possible.

So, Hawley, who is probably best known for his work on the FX shows, “Legion” and “Fargo,” is set to take over the franchise and lead it into a new era. We’ll have to wait and see if this “Star Trek 4” is the one that will stick.
