If you’re someone that recently concluded the first season of Jason Segel’s AMC TV series, “Dispatches from Elsewhere,” you know the show is incredibly strange (in a good way). The mysterious, fantastical series doesn’t play by typical storytelling rules, and it appears that offbeat sensibility extends to the release of the scores, as well. Yes, scores, as in plural.

In honor of Lakeshore Records releasing not one, but two albums of music from the series “Dispatches From Elsewhere,” we’re honored to give our readers a first listen to one of the tracks, from the “Music from the Jejune Institute” album. The two releases, the aforementioned ‘Jejnue Institute’ and “Music from the Elsewhere Society” are both inspired by the series, composed by Atticus Ross, Leopold Ross, and Claudia Sarne, but take different approaches to the material. One album is primarily electronic, while the other is more guitar-oriented.
Atticus Ross, of course, has teamed with Trent Reznor on a number of scores, including the Oscar-nominated work on “The Social Network” and the Grammy-winning score for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Ross has teamed with Leopold Ross and Claudia Sarne on scores for films such as “New York, I Love You,” “The Book of Eli,” and the recent Netflix project, “Earthquake Bird.” On the TV front, the trio has worked on the series, “The Defiant Ones.”
Again, it can’t be understated that Jason Segel has created a very unique series, and he’s taking it upon himself (with the help of Lakeshore Records) to promote the score albums in a different way, as well. Instead of a press release, as you might expect, the scores are being promoted with cryptic flyers (one of which you can see below). If nothing else, this will certainly turn heads.
“Dispatches From Elsewhere” recently ended its run on AMC, but can be streamed where you find AMC content. As for the score, the electronic-minded “Music from the Jejune Institute” is available today, while the guitar-heavy “Music from the Elsewhere Society” will be available on May 1.
