George Miller‘s Oscar-winning “Mad Max: Fury Road” remains one of the biggest cinematic miracles in modern history. A film filled with production issues it’s truly astonishing that it turned out so well and so successful. One of the biggest and most talked-about problems during production was the tension between Miller and actors Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.

There have been reports for years about Theron and Hardy’s feuds for years, but it wasn’t until this past May that the two actors talked in detail about their on-set feud for the first time. Now it is stunt performer Dayna Grant who opened up to Metro and talked about her experience doubling for Theron.
“We knew right from the get go,” Grant said. “We knew from the beginning that it was happening when we were doing the fight choreography…there was tension then. So we were told what was going on. And we were just told to try and make it work as much as possible, which was challenging, because usually you’re all in one big group and working together whereas we were kind of separated.”
During interviews with the New York Times for an oral history of the movie, both Theron and Hardy spoke of the harsh conditions of the set, as Miller was basing his direction off a series of storyboards more so than a traditional script, which led to tensions between the actors and the directors. Grant now says that the feud between the actors was well known amongst the crew.

“It was really hard. It was hard because it was obviously I had to spend time with both of them and both of them didn’t want to be together,” Grant continued. “Usually Charlize would come in and they’d do scenes together but they didn’t want to do scenes together so I was put in her spot to always be with Tom. Tom’s double was always put with Charlize, so we actually worked with the opposite characters.”
