Got a Tip?

Barbara Broccoli Doesn’t “Have Any Plans” To Produce Spinoffs Of The James Bond Franchise In The Future

If you’re a fan of the James Bond film franchise, you’re likely well aware of the duo of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the two people that seemingly call all the shots, creatively, when it comes to the iconic superspy and his adventures. And though there seems to be a big outcry over recent years for more Bond content, such as potential TV shows and spinoffs, those are ideas that don’t seem to be of much interest to the producers.

Speaking to Fandango, Wilson and Broccoli talked about the future of the James Bond franchise, particularly since the new “No Time to Die” marks a clear ending for this modern iteration of the character. Of course, they hope that there is still plenty of story to mine for future films, but one thing they don’t seem at least intrigued by is to expand the franchise to include spinoffs that venture beyond 007.

“The success of these films is the central character,” explained Broccoli. “We have not done [a spinoff] in the past, and I don’t think we have any plans to do it in the future. But who knows?”

This spinoff discussion comes after yet another Bond film, “No Time to Die,” that seems to introduce characters that are ripe for exploration on their own, particularly when you think of the new characters played by Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas. The latter of which doesn’t get much screentime at all, even though she’s been all over the marketing for months now.

Regardless of fan hopes and dreams, Broccoli and Wilson hold the keys to the James Bond Aston Martin and will only drive the franchise where they think it will work. And right now, at least, it appears that means the franchise is going to rely solely on the charisma of 007, surrounded by a cast that is going to stay in the background.
