It’s been quite a while since Todd Field has released a new film. Fifteen years, actually. And after a ton of projects that seemed to be going well but ultimately fell apart, it appears the Cate Blanchett-starring “TÁR” is actually going to be the one to move forward at Focus Features.
According to the studio, Todd Field’s “TÁR” actually now has a release date for fall 2022, with Cate Blanchett set to star in the lead role. Here’s the description of the film from Focus:
“The film, set in the international world of classical music, centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer/conductors and first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra.”
Of course, it’s not just Blanchett in the cast. Joining the actress in the film are includes Nina Hoss, Noémie Merlant, Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover, Mark Strong, Allan Corduner, and Sylvia Flote.
Also of note, the score for the film is set to be composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir. You may remember the composer best for being the first female to win the Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe for Best Original Score for her work on “Joker.” In addition, she’s worked on films such as “Mary Magdelene,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” and the upcoming David O. Russell untitled film.
As mentioned, the real exciting part of this film, even with all those other folks involved, is the fact that “TÁR” marks the latest film from filmmaker Todd Field. His debut feature, 2001’s “In the Bedroom” was nominated for five Oscars and his next film, 2006’s “Little Children,” was nominated for three more. And “TÁR” marks his first film in more than 15 years.
“TÁR” is set to arrive in theaters on October 7, 2022.
