‘Red One’: Chris Evans Joins Dwayne Johnson In New Holiday Action Film From Jake Kasdan

Chris Evans might have left the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind, but that doesn’t mean the actor is leaving all blockbusters in the past. Not only is the former Captain America working on the upcoming Russo Brothers film, “The Gray Man,” which is Netflix’s biggest, most expensive action film to date. And now, it appears he’s only getting bigger as he’s teaming up with Dwayne Johnson for a new holiday film, “Red One.”

According to Deadline, Chris Evans is now set to star opposite Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming Amazon film, “Red One.” The holiday film has a secretive plot, but we do know it is directed by Jake Kasdan, of “Jumanji” reboot fame, and written by Chris Morgan, the guy behind the “Fast & Furious” franchise. So, yes, we can fully expect this to be a big-budget, big spectacle tentpole film.

As mentioned, Chris Evans is probably best known for his role as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in the various Marvel Cinematic Universe films. However, he stepped out of the role after 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” In the meantime, he’s signed on for the aforementioned “The Gray Man,” Pixar’sLightyear,” as well as “Ghosted.”

Dwayne Johnson is, of course, no stranger to blockbusters, either. He’s a star from the “Jumanji” reboot franchise, the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, as well as the upcoming superhero film, “Black Adam,” and the next two “Red Notice” sequels. He’s just a blockbuster machine who pumps out films all the time.

No release date has been set for “Red One,” but the film is expected to begin production in 2022. If that’s the case, a Christmas 2023 release seems logical.
