‘Mayfair Witches’ Trailer: Alexandra Daddario Stars In AMC’s Supernatural Expansion Of Its Anne Rice Universe

AMC has gone all in on Anne Rice. Since its 2020 acquisition of the author’s iconic catalog – including both “The Lives of the Mayfair Witches” series and the more famous “The Vampire Chronicles” series – the network has already renewed “Interview with the Vampire” for a second season on the heels of its acclaimed October 2 debut.

Next up to bat is “Mayfair Witches,” the first season of which will presumably be adapted from Anne Rice’s “The Witching Hour.” Here’s the show’s official synopsis:

“‘Mayfair Witches’ focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon, Rowan, who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.”

The series will star Alexandra Daddario as Rowan, with Jack Huston (“Manhunt,” “Kill Your Darlings”) and Tongayi Chirisa (“iZombie”) in supporting roles. Notable recurring players include the eternally suave Harry Hamlin (“Mad Men”) and the ubiquitous Beth Grant (“Grace and Frankie”).

The showrunner is TV veteran Esta Spalding (“On Becoming a God in Central Florida”). Episodes were written by Spalding and her “Masters of Sex” collaborator Michelle Ashford. Michael Uppendahl (“American Crime Story,” “Fargo”) directed the first two episodes, and the series is produced by Jeff Freilich, who has previously overseen elegant and understated cult favorites like “Lodge 49” and “Halt and Catch Fire.”

AMC also acquired three crossover novels featuring characters from both the “Mayfair Witches” series and “The Vampire Chronicles.” If both the “Interview with a Vampire” and “Mayfair Witches” adaptations have staying power, an onscreen collision of the two shows is an enticing possibility.

“Mayfair Witches” is set to premiere in early 2023. In the meantime, view the trailer below.
