While maybe not as big as “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s “His Dark Materials” has been a steady fantasy hit for the premium network while “Game of Thrones” sat on the shelf. Now, the series is ready to end its run after the upcoming Season 3, and we have a look at how “His Dark Materials” intends to wrap up.
As seen in the trailer for “His Dark Materials” Season 3, the final batch of episodes adapts Philip Pullman’s “The Amber Spyglass,” the final novel in his trilogy. In the story, Lyra and Will are set to venture to a place no one has ever returned from as they attempt to save the world. If it sounds a bit like Fantasy Storytelling 101, that’s not all that surprising. Many consider Pullman’s story to be a direct response to fantasy series such as “The Lord of the Rings” and “Chronicles of Narnia.”
“His Dark Materials” features an ensemble cast that includes Dafne Keen, Amir Wilson, Ruth Wilson, James McAvoy, Simone Kirby, Will Keen, Jade Anouka, Ruta Gedminstas, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jamie Ward, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison, Chipo Chung, and Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe.
The final season of “His Dark Materials” debuts on HBO on December 5. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
