Fresh off its world premiere at TIFF last September, “Sanctuary” sees Abbott and Qualley play a twisted power game with each other. Qualley’s Rebecca is Abbott’s Hal’s dominatrix, but Hal wants to end their relationship after he’s up to inherit his father’s hotel chain. But Rebecca isn’t having that…

Here’s an official synopsis for “Sanctuary,” courtesy of NEON:

A wickedly dark comedy follows dominatrix, Rebecca, and her wealthy client, Hal, as they engage in a high stakes role playing game for power and control. In the wake of inheriting his father’s hotel chain, Hal attempts to end his long and secret relationship with Rebecca. A battle of wills ensues over the course of one incredibly fraught night, with both Rebecca and Hal struggling to keep the upper hand as the power dynamics swing wildly back and forth.

“Sanctuary” is Zachary Wigon‘s sophomore feature after 2014’s “The Heart Machine.”  Micah Bloomberg pens the film’s script.  Ilya Stewart and Pavel Burian produce the movie with David Lancaster and Stephanie Wilcox.

The Playlist’s review of “Sanctuary” out of TIFF calls it a “sleek, seductive drama” with “a deceptively sweet love story” amid its BDSM kink and knotty push-and-pull dynamics. Sound up your alley? Then check out “Sanctuary” when it hits theaters on May 19. Watch a trailer for the film below.
