Bryan Singer Reportedly Attempting A Comeback With A Self-Financed Doc About The Sexual Assault Allegations Against Him

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard Bryan Singer’s name mentioned with new projects in development. This is because the filmmaker has been persona non grata in Hollywood after various sexual assault allegations were thrown his way, compounded by rampant reports of alleged erratic and unprofessional behavior on set. Suffice it to say, Singer isn’t getting any studio gigs anytime soon, if ever again. But apparently, the filmmaker’s ready for his comeback, and he’s on the hunt for people willing to take a chance on him.

According to Variety, Bryan Singer has been speaking with potential investors about a variety of feature film projects, including a documentary about the allegations against himself. The report claims that Singer, who doesn’t currently have an agent, has been meeting with potential partners regarding three narrative films he is trying to get funds for. Those films are supposedly set around Israel (where he currently lives) and will be positioned as low-budget ventures. No word yet on whether or not he will get any funds to get those made.

The most interesting, and perhaps troubling, project mentioned is a self-financed documentary he wants to direct about his life, including tackling the sexual assault allegations that derailed his career. Without getting into the gory details, Singer has been accused by several men in recent years of sexual assault when they were underage. At the time of the allegations, Singer was outspoken in his defense. However, when his career was basically ended, he went off and didn’t make many public appearances. Now, it appears he’s ready to take on those allegations and defend himself in a documentary that he will direct.

Obviously, when you hear of a documentary about a very serious situation regarding sexual assault being made by the man accused of the crimes, the idea of objectivity gets thrown out of the window. That said, it’s not difficult to imagine someone out there would be willing to distribute the documentary and give Singer another chance. We’ll just have to wait and see if/when that happens.
