Warner Bros. Pictures may have pushed “Dune: Part Two” to next March, but they still have another Timothée Chalamet tentpole on the way this year. And Paul King‘s “Wonka” couldn’t be more different than Denis Villeneuve‘s sci-fi action epic. Based on Roald Dahl‘s iconic chocolatier from “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory,” King’s film is a big-budget musical that tackles how a young Willy Wonka first made it in the candy business. And, yes, Timothée Chalamet sings in the movie, a lot.

Warner Bros. has a new trailer for “Wonka” to drum up some hype before the film hits theaters in December, complete with all-new scenes with Chalamet as the world’s greatest magician, inventor, and chocolate-maker. Here’s an official synopsis for the musical, courtesy of Warner Bros.:
Starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big-screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time—proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.
Alongside Chalamet, “Wonka” boasts an ensemble cast that includes Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, and Mathew Baynton. Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant also star. Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakrar, and Tom Davis round out the main cast.
Paul King direct “Wonka” from a script he co-writes with Simon Farnaby.
Producers on the film include David Heyman, Alexandra Derbyshire, and Luke Kelly. Neil Hannon writes original songs for the musical, with Joby Talbot composing the film’s score.
