It’s been about a year since we heard about David Robert Mitchell’s untitled new film starring Anne Hathaway. And since then, it was reported that Mitchell was going to do a new “It Follows” sequel at some point, leaving many to wonder what was going on with the Hathaway collab. Well, it appears that’s next on his schedule, and we know who’s the next A-lister to join the cast.
According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor has joined Anne Hathaway in the cast of David Robert Mitchell’s upcoming untitled film. No plot details are known, but it is said to be shot in IMAX format and reportedly will be a “thrill ride.” Obviously, this would be a very different (and much bigger scale) film than what Mitchell has been making for much of his career. His most recent film is the underperforming “Under the Silver Lake,” which had a great cast but was polarizing with critics. Before that, he did the aforementioned indie horror film, “It Follows.” Previously, he broke out with the indie comedy, “The Myth of the American Sleepover.”
McGregor has been one of the biggest names in Hollywood for a number of years now. Recently, he reprised his iconic role as a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi in his own Disney+ “Star Wars” series. Before that, he won an Emmy for his role in the series “Halston,” and McGregor was also seen in “Doctor Sleep.” He teamed up with his daughter for the upcoming dramedy, “Bleeding Love,” which is arriving in theaters soon.
Again, we don’t know much about whatever this new project is. Hathaway has been attached since last March and things have been pretty quiet about it since. Though this new film is set up at Warner Bros. and has J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company attached to produce. So, clearly, this is a project that is going to be bigger than anything Mitchell has previously worked on. It’ll definitely be interesting to see how he does with a bigger cast and a major studio backing him.
A release date is unknown at this time.
