Got a Tip?

‘Apartment 7A’ First Look: Julia Gardner Stars In ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ Prequel On Paramount + On September 27

2024 is a strong year in horror so far, thanks to the likes of “In A Violent Nature,” “Late Night With The Devil,” and “I Saw The TV Glow.” So how will the latest in legacy horror measure up against this year’s top genre entries?  Paramount+ subscribers finds out when “Apartment 7A” premieres on the streamer just in time for Halloween season in late September.  And the “Rosemary’s Baby” prequel has a lot going for it on paper: a rising star in lead actress Julia Gardner, but also an established presence behind the camera in “Relic” director Natalie Erika James.

James’ follow-up to her 2020 grief-ridden horror film tackles another register, however.  Whereas “Relic” was somber, “Apartment 7A” is ominous in a different way: a singular sinister nature found only in stories dealing with cults, like the members of one living in the Bramford building Gardner’s Terry Gionoffrio moves into. Empire’s first look at the upcoming film showcases James’ meticulous attention to period detail. “Apartment 7A” looks like NYC in the mid-1960s in more ways than one.

Here’s an official synopsis for “Apartment 7A,” courtesy of Paramount:

An ambitious young dancer Terry Gionoffrio dreams of fame and fortune in New York City, but after suffering a devastating injury, an older, wealthy couple welcomes her into their home in the luxury apartment building the Bramford. When fellow resident and influential Broadway producer offers her another chance at fame, it seems that all her dreams are finally coming true. However, after an evening she can’t fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A, but in the Bramford itself.

Along with Gardner, “Apartment 7A” also stars Dianne Wiest, Kevin McNally, Jim Sturgess, Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen, and Koba Holdbrook-Smith. James co-writes the prequel with Christian White and Skylar James.

So what does James have in store for Gardner’s Terry in “Apartment 7A”? Will she be the victim to circumstances similar to Mia Farrow’s Rosemary in Roman Polanski‘s 1968 original, or will the devil make a different pact with the Bramford’s latest resident? Find out when “Apartment 7A” hits Paramount+ on September 27. Check out the latest first-look images below, courtesy of Empire.
