Dunkin’ has an established history of embracing the ridiculous from their Al Pacino cameo in the Adam Sandler movie “Jack & Jill,” shooting a fake ad (still a real product placement) for the coffee and donut chain. Well, that comedic tradition continues with a string of ads starring The Affleck Brothers, and the most recent one includes a Super Bowl spot that had been previously teased with “Succession” actor Jeremy Strong revealing his “bean method” to the Boston duo.
Well, the full Super Bowl spot from yesterday was much more than that by morphing into a ridiculous short film follow-up to the DunKings promo with “DunKings 2: The Movie” that features Strong, Casey Affleck, Ben Affleck, former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, internet personality/comedian Druski, Askview universe staples Jay & Silent Bob (Jason Mews and Kevin Smith), and more trying to join the new phase of the DunKings.
In the ad, The Affleck Brothers want to replace Matt Damon and Tom Brady to bring back the DunKings. Indeed, it is a chuckle-inducing ad considering all the nonsense from Strong, including wearing a colonial-era costume, to out Boston the other contenders.
Some other ads saw Casey and Damon (who appeared in a Super Bowl ad for Stella Artois as David Beckham’s long-lost brother) pretending to rob a Dunkin’ store to promote their heist pic “The Instigators.” Will we get a third incarnation of the DunKings? We’ll have to wait for next year to see if Dunkin’ will continue to
