It’s been a hot minute since we’ve been excited for a new Joe Carnahan movie, but his latest offering, “The Rip,” could be one to keep an eye on, as the narco thriller is coming to Netflix on January 16, and the streaming service has shared a batch of first-look stills from it.
“The Rip,” written and directed by Carnahan, boasts an impressive cast led by Boston’s own Matt Damon and Ben Affleck with Steven Yeun (“Minari,” “Beef,” “Mickey 17”), Teyana Taylor (“One Battle After Another”), Sasha Calle (“The Flash”), Catalina Sandino Moreno (“Ballerina”), Scott Adkins (“John Wick 4”), and Kyle Chandler (“Lanterns,” “The Wolf of Wall Street”).
An official synopsis for the crime thriller courtesy of Netflix:
Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.
A producing team assembled for “The Rip” consists of Affleck, Damon, Dani Bernfeld, and Luciana Damon alongside executive producers Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe for Artists Equity.
Carnahan’s most recent efforts have been “Shadow Force” and “Cop Shop,” with his latest survival movie, “Not Without Hope,” on deck after “The Rip.” He first got on everyone’s radar after his gritty 2002 NYC crime thriller “Narc,” starring Jason Patric and Ray Liotta, became a bit of a sensation.
We suspect a trailer is likely on the horizon next, and going by the images/plotline, we might be looking at “The Rip” being the next “Triple Frontier” (we can only hope). Until then, you can feast upon those aforementioned images below.
