The first real movie from the “Drag Race” universe is beginning to take shape. The untitled project, a recipient of a 2025 California Tax Credit (which reveals a real non-green screen budget of $6.6 million), has already announced that RuPaul Charles will star in a supporting role. Now, director Adam Shankman and World of Wonder are unveiling the main cast, which includes some popular queens and “Drag Race” winners, including Symone, Jujubee, Monet X Change, Latrice Royale, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Marcia Marcia Marcia, and Ginger Minj.

It was previously announced that Bleecker Street would distribute the film in the U.S. Now, Universal Studios Content Group is on board for international rights. That likely means a limited theatrical release in select markets around the world.
According to a press release, the action comedy follows Tess (Ginger Minj) and DeeDee (Jujubee), two train stewardesses who get a promotion from their “dreary shifts on the Stank Rail for the glitzy Glamazonian Express.” When a disastrous “Stormaganza” threatens to derail the high-speed train and crash it into Los Angeles, the duo in coach must join forces with the snobby first-class attendants (Symone, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Latrice Royale) and President Gagwell (RuPaul) to save the day.
Jujubee is a “Drag Race” staple who has co-hosted TLC’s “Dragnificent” and competed on the global singing competition “Queen of the Universe.” This fall, she will voice Archie in the animated feature “Sirenetta: Part-Time Mermaid.” Ginger Minj was the winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season 10. Her film and television credits include “Dumplin” opposite Jennifer Aniston and Disney’s streaming smash “Hocus Pocus 2.”
Brooke Lynn Hytes is the host of “Canada’s Drag Race,” a former Miss Continental winner, and the creator, executive producer, and host of Crave original “1 Queen 5 Queers.”
Latrice Royale was a co-host of the fourth season of HBO’s Peabody Award-winning “We’re Here,” and starred opposite RuPaul in Netflix’s “AJ & The Queen.” Onstage, she starred in “DeathDrop” on London’s West End and played Audrey II in “Little Shop of Horrors.”
Marcia Marcia Marcia, known on Broadway as Marty Lauter, has appeared in productions including “Kinky Boots” and “Hello, Dolly!” She spent the past year as the backup emcee for the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of “Cabaret.”
Monét X Change was the winner of “All Stars” season 4 and has made a name for herself as a talk show host and stand-up comedian. Her television appearances include “Survival of the Thickest,” “Glamorous,” “The Simpsons,” and “Everybody Still Hates Chris.”
Symone is the winner of “Drag Race” season 13 and has appeared in Universal Studios’ “Bros” opposite Billy Eichner, ABC’s “Station 18,” “Abbott Elementary,” and Kacey Musgraves’ “Star-Crossed: The Film.”
Shankman is best known for directing “Hairspray,” but his credits include a long list of box office hits, including “Bedtime Stories,” “The Wedding Planner,” “Bringing Down the House,” “The Pacifier,” “Cheaper by the Dozen 2,” and “A Walk to Remember.” Considering the film has not revealed the passengers on the train, we’d expect Shankman to recruit some of his famous friends for some cameos.
The film’s script is by Connor Wright and Christina Friel. Wright co-wrote the 2021 World of Wonder TV movie “The Bitch Who Saves Christmas,” but the writing duo also collaborated on multiple episodes of the FOX animated series “Grimsburg.”
The film is being financed by Unapologetic Projects, which has backed critically acclaimed films such as Sean Wang’s “Didi” and John Early’s “Maddie’s Secret,” which just debuted at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
Production should begin soon, as films only have six months to qualify for their tax credit without an extension. The film is set for release sometime in 2026.
