Eric Bana's 'Star Trek' Shaved Head Apparently Delayed 'The Time Traveler's Wife'

Speculation has consistently surrounded the ongoing delay of Robert Schwentke’s “The Time Traveler’s Wife.” While an August 14th release date for this year was recently announced, it will still mark almost two years since shooting first began with the intention of a 2008 release.

SciFiWire now reports that, whilst promoting “State Of Play,” Rachel McAdams has revealed the source of the delay: Evidently Eric Bana’s hair. “That’s right. He had to shave his head for a different role, for ‘Star Trek,’ I think. So we were waiting on Eric’s hair.”

But hang on, if ‘Time Traveler’ shot in 2007 and ‘Trek’ shot mostly in 2008, does this mean the film reshot? Not on McAdams’ watch: “It wasn’t really a reshoot – we did an additional scene in the meadow, so we were waiting on the meadow to look like the way it did. So we were waiting on the seasons. Basically, we were waiting on nature and Eric’s hair.”

Based on the popular novel of the same name, ‘Time Traveler’ is about a man (Bana) with a genetic disorder that causes him to involuntarily time travel and the effect this infliction has on the relationship with his wife (McAdams).

When asked about the sci-fi nature of the film, McAdams responded: “I saw a cut, like, quite a long time ago, a very, very rough cut. So I haven’t seen it in a while. But from what I remember then, it’s quite focused on the relationship. There is time travel in it, obviously, and it’s kind of cool in the way they deal with it, his shoes kind of clicking down the stairs, and some cool shots with that, but Robert Schwentke, the director, he really explored the relationship and how you carry on with the love of your life when you have this imposition, to say the least.”

We’re liking how the story has a “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind”-vibe to it, a sci-fi romance.
