New Plot Details Revealed For Wong Kar-Wai's Next Film

nullLast week came word that Wong Kar-Wai was picking up the pace a bit, and set to shoot his next film in 2015. There weren’t many details at the time except that the film would be a "romance" (which isn’t exactly a surprise), and feature a still-undisclosed male lead "all women are crazy about." Well, the slow drip of info continues this morning, as a few bit of information about the project have emerged.

Film Business Asia (via Film Divider) reveal that the director’s new film will be based off "Ferryman" from the short story from the collection, "I Belonged To You." Author Jiajia Zhang confirmed the news, and the book is an interesting one, a round-up of "bedtime stories" first published online, and later in physical form, with both versions proving to be massive hits in China. As for the story Wong Kar-Wai is tackling, it will follow the affair between a married artist and a young woman, with Zhang penning the script.

Of course, in the hands of Wong Kar-Wai, we figure he’ll put his own imprint on the script and we can only imagine he’ll take the source material and expand upon it (we’ll also guess that "Ferryman" won’t be the final title). And as we await more word, the casting is next bit we’ll keep an eye out for with Zhang promising that "very strong" actors will be involved.
