Hollywood is still trying to make Chris Pine happen. Outside of the “Star Trek” franchise, the actor has been a non-starter, but that’s not stopping Disney from choosing Pine to lead “The Finest Hours.” Penned by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson and based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, the film would tell the story of a 1952 Coast Guard mission to rescue the crew of two oil tankers that crash off the coast of Cape Cod. Fox is keeping their “Fantastic Four” and “Chronicle” star Michael B. Jordan in the family, snapping up the T.J. Fixman pitch “Men Who Kill” and developing it for the actor. No firm plot details, but tonally it’s said to be “an international ‘Bad Boys,’ ” which says about all you need to know. [Deadline]
Caleb Landry Jones has joined Jeremy Irvine in Roland Emmerich‘s “Stonewall.” Jon Robin Baitz penned the script about the landmark event in gay rights history. Jones will be playing “an eccentric gay street hustler named Orphan Annie who at first resists then warms up to [lead character] Danny and later participates in the Stonewall uprising.” [Deadline]
Geoffrey Rush has been tapped to star in “Consider Yourself,” a musical biopic of “Oliver!” writer Lionel Bart. Vadim Jean (“Jiminy Glick In Lalawood“) is directing the project, and he’s promising big things. “It’s a full-blown musical, and we’re using versions of his songs in ways that you’ve never heard before,” he said. Rush will play the composer in his older years, with BBC Films now casting for an actor take the role of Bart in his younger years. [Daily Mail]
Jackie Chan will get back in action mode with “Dragon Blade.” Daniel Lee (“Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon“) will direct this one about “Roman soldiers lost in ancient China,” and a big American star is rumored to feature as well, with Chinese press speculating it could be Mel Gibson. Lastly, “New Girl” star Max Greenfield has lined up a role in Michael Showalter‘s next film, “Hello My Name Is Doris.” “It’s a story about Doris, this character, she’s an older woman,” Greenfield explained. “Her mother passes away and she’s then forced to kind of find a new life in the city, and she meets this younger guy and thinks that he’s the answer.” [The Wrap]
