It was seven years ago that Amy Adams broke out in "Junebug" and she hasn't looked back since. Showing that she can move from drama to comedy to romance with ease, the actress has proven to be one of the most talented and versatile of her generation. Need evidence? Watch "The Fighter" and then "The Muppets." Or maybe here three Oscar nominations will be enough to convince you. At any rate, 2012 is shaping up to be banner year for Adams. "On The Road" premieres in Cannes next week, she's been busy lensing "Trouble With The Curve" alongside a guy named Clint Eastwood, later this year she'll be working with Spike Jonze on his untitled romance and then there's a movie called "The Master" you might have heard of opening this fall. And now, she's putting another project on the table.
Deadline reports that Adams will star in the thriller "Dark Places." Based on the book by Gillian Flynn, the story follows Libby Day (Adams) who witnesses her family get murdered as a teenager, and testifies against her brother when he is tried for the crime. 25 years later, Libby is brought before the secretive Kill Club who want to uncover the truth about what happened. We Need To Talk About Libby? Anyway, we hope there is more to it than the pulpy premise, but the hire of Gilles Paquet-Brenner, the man behind the sleeper "Sarah's Key," to direct the movie (he also penned the script), is a step in the right direction.
No word yet on where this will fall on Adams schedule, as she also signed on in recent months to the adaptation of Steve Martin's "An Object Of Beauty." But it's another interesting choice from an actress who is fascinating to watch, no matter what she's in. And given her choices of late, we're curious to see what she sees in the material here.
