'Antebellum' Teaser: Janelle Monáe Finds Herself Trapped Between Realities In New Horror Film

We’ve said it a million times when talking about teasers for films, but studios really just don’t understand what the word “tease” actually means. Masquerading as “teasers,” studios tend to release full trailers for films giving away far more than is actually necessary. Thankfully, Lionsgate didn’t go that route for the film “Antebellum.”

In the teaser for the upcoming horror film, the emphasis is very much on tease. Just watching the 1-minute clip, you’re given plenty of imagery that will make you question exactly what the film is about, but by the end of it, you’ll likely be desperate to find out what’s really going on in “Antebellum.”

You see scenes of modern-day life juxtaposed with the same characters in Civil War-era clothing, working on a plantation. People walk down the modern street and almost get run over by horse-drawn carriages from 150 years ago. People working on a plantation look up and see planes flying overhead. It’s bonkers. And also very creepy.

The film stars Janelle Monáe, Marque Richardson II, Eric Lang, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone. “Antebellum” is directed by the duo of Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz (Bush+Renz), who are making their feature film debut with the horror project.

“Antebellum” arrives in theaters on April 24, 2020.

Here’s the synopsis:

Successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.
