“Sterling Point”
Following the success of “My Old Ass,” Megan Park returns to coming-of-age storytelling with her first television series. “Sterling Point” stars Ella Rubin as Annie Jacobson, a 17-year-old New Yorker raised alongside her twin brother and adoptive father. When Annie unexpectedly inherits her mysterious grandfather’s Canadian island, she enters an unfamiliar world of new friendships, first love, and long-buried family secrets. Keen Ruffalo plays Annie’s brother, with Jay Duplass, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Missi Pyle, Amélie Hoeferle, and Bo Bragason among the ensemble. Park directs, co-showruns, and executive produces the eight-episode drama alongside “Gossip Girl” producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, with LuckyChap also producing.
Premiere Date: August 5 on Prime Video, with all eight episodes available immediately.
“One Hundred Years of Solitude: Part 2”
Adapting Gabriel García Márquez’s landmark novel for television once seemed like an impossible undertaking, but Netflix’s Colombian production managed to capture the scope, cyclical tragedy, and magical realism of the Buendía family’s story without reducing it to a conventional generational saga. Part 2 continues the history of Macondo as war gives way to supposed progress, the railroad arrives, and foreign business interests begin reshaping the town. Laura Mora returns as a director and is joined by Carlos Moreno, with Marleyda Soto and Claudio Cataño reprising their roles as Úrsula Iguarán and Colonel Aureliano Buendía. Seven episodes arrive together before the series concludes with a separately released grand finale.
Premiere Date: Seven episodes arrive August 5 on Netflix, followed by the series finale on August 26.
“Reacher”
There is little mystery surrounding what audiences want from “Reacher”: Alan Ritchson dispensing blunt observations, solving elaborate conspiracies, and physically demolishing anyone unwise enough to underestimate him. Season 4 adapts “Gone Tomorrow,” the 13th novel in Lee Child’s series. The story begins when Reacher encounters a distressed stranger on a subway and is pulled into a deadly conspiracy involving enemies operating at the highest levels of power. New cast members include Chris Marquette, Sydelle Noel, Marc Blucas, Kevin Corrigan, Kathleen Robertson, and Kevin Weisman. The formula may be familiar by now, but its directness remains a major part of the show’s appeal.
Premiere Date: August 12 on Prime Video, beginning with three episodes before moving to a weekly schedule.
“Women in Blue” (“Las Azules”)
Apple’s Spanish-language period crime drama returns with María, now promoted to lieutenant, forced to choose between following the institution’s rules and exposing the truth it would rather suppress. The discovery of a student activist’s body leads María and the Azules toward a case connected to Mexico’s 1968 student massacre. A second killing soon deepens the mystery and suggests that someone may be delivering a violent form of justice directly to the police. Bárbara Mori, Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Téllez, and Amorita Rasgado return as the central quartet, with Leonardo Sbaraglia, Christian Tappán, and Bruno Bichir also starring. Fernando Rovzar and Pablo Aramendi remain the series’ creators.
