Scott Derrickson‘s “The Black Phone” was one of 2022’s unexpected horror hits, taking in nearly ten times its budget at the box office. Of course, that mean a sequel was inevitable, and it’ll have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest later this month before it hit theaters in October.

Ethan Hawke returns in “Black Phone 2” in the most sinister role of his career: the mask-clad serial killer The Grabber. The sequel catches up with The Grabber’s only known survivor, Mason, whose sister begins to have visions of the killer from beyond the grave.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Black Phone 2,” courtesy of Universal Pictures:
Four years ago, 13-year-old Finn killed his abductor and escaped, becoming the sole survivor of The Grabber. But true evil transcends death … and the phone is ringing again. Four-time Academy Award® nominee Ethan Hawke returns to the most sinister role of his career as The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn from beyond the grave by menacing Finn’s younger sister, Gwen. As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history.
Along with Hawke, “Black Phone 2” also stars Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, and Arianna Rivas.
Along with directing, Derrickson also pens the film’s script with C. Robert Cargill, adapting Joe Hill‘s short story. Derrickson and Cargill also produced the sequel with Jason Blum. Executive producers include Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld.
“Black Phone 2” hit theaters everywhere on October 17. Watch the new trailer for the film below.
