When you think “Fantasy Island,” odds are all you can remember is actor Hervé Villechaize shouting, “Ze plane! Ze plane!” Well, now Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions are hoping to bring the series to the big screen, and hopefully, the film version will be a little more memorable.
According to Deadline, Blumhouse Productions has teamed with Sony Pictures to develop a feature film based on the TV series “Fantasy Island.” The series tells the story of Mr. Roarke and his assistant Tattoo, who welcome guests to their secluded island, where they can live out their fantasies. Often these fantasies would have supernatural elements. And many of the fantasies don’t exactly turn out just as the wisher expected.
From that description, it’s clear to see where Blum might take the franchise, with a more dark and serious tone. Joining Blum is none other than Jeff Wadlow, who will helm “Fantasy Island.” Wadlow is best known for his recent film “Truth or Dare,” which despite negative reviews, went on to make a nice profit for Blumhouse earlier this year. Wadlow is also responsible for helming the films “Kick-Ass 2,” “Never Back Down,” and “True Memoirs of an International Assassin.” The latter of which premiered on Netflix in 2016, as part of Adam Sandler’s overall deal.

The last few years have been especially profitable for Blumhouse, with films like “Get Out,” “Split,” “The First Purge,” and “Happy Death Day.” Later this year, the production company will release “BlacKkKlansman” and the highly-anticipated “Halloween.” And in 2019, Blumhouse shows no signs of slowing down with “Glass” kicking off the year in January.
No word on a release date for “Fantasy Island,” but the real question is who they get to tackle the role of Tattoo.
