Duo Behind 'Billions' To Develop A New Showtime Series About The Real-Life Drama At Uber

On paper, a series about the inner workings of the ride-sharing platform, Uber, doesn’t necessarily scream must-see TV. However, when you add writers-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien to the mix, suddenly this Uber show seems like it’s going to be incredible and yet another major win for Showtime.

According to Variety, Showtime has agreed to develop an upcoming series from Koppelman and Levien about the behind-the-scenes drama that has painted the early days of Uber. The untitled series, based on Mike Isaac’s book “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber,” tells the story of the beginnings of the silicon valley giant, as it experienced turmoil with its CEO shuffle and all the pitfalls that come with being one of the fastest-growing businesses in tech.

Jana Winograde, co-president of entertainment for Showtime, said, “The story of Uber is rich in plot twists, one-of-a-kind personalities and important implications for corporate America. It is a case study of ingenuity and insanity, and there are no writers better suited than Brian and David to explore this business and the people who drive it, literally and metaphorically.”

If you’re wondering why Koppelman and Levien are perfect for this sort of story, then clearly you’re not watching “Billions.” The Showtime drama is consistently the network’s best series, and one of its highest-rated programs. And that series, on paper, doesn’t necessarily sound like appointment television, as it follows the rivalry between a US Attorney and a powerful hedge fund manager. That sounds like snooze city, but with Koppelman and Levien at the helm, and the incredible cast, “Billions” is just simply amazing and highly entertaining.

And if the real drama surrounding Uber is already good enough to keep you entertained, lord knows what this duo can do on this new series. Needless to say, we’re sold.
