In today’s edition of the casting round-up, we have news from a Japan-set comic-book movie, one of the two competing White House siege films, and a sequel to a movie no one really liked.
Brian Tee (you may recognize him from stints on “Grimm,” “Burn Notice” and Starz’s “Crash”) is playing a corrupt minister of justice who is arranged to marry a Yakuza boss’ daughter, who is romantically involved with Wolverine. James Mangold is at the helm of the movie that will find Wolverine suffering from amnesia and searching for answers about his past in the Japanese criminal underworld, where he finds both love and tragedy and winds up squaring off against Silver Samurai. Tee joins Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and, of course, Jackman. The film starts shooting in August in Australia and Japan, with a release date scheduled for July 26, 2013. [THR]
Cole Hauser has joined “Olympus Has Fallen,” one of two competing White House action flicks, the other being Sony’s Roland Emmerich-directed “White House Down.” This project has Antoine Fuqua at the helm with Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart starring as a Secret Service agent and POTUS, respectively. Hauser, bucking his trend of playing bad guys, is playing one of Butler’s comrades and one of the agents assigned to protect Eckhart’s President. Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell round out the cast. And in today’s oddball bit of news, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Patrick Schwarzenegger is playing Taylor Lautner’s frat brother in “Grown Ups 2.” Man, that movie just keeps on getting better and better. Set to hit theaters on July 12, 2013, the cast includes returning dudes Adam Sandler, Salma Hayek, Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade, with Andy Samberg, Will Forte, Bobby Moynihan and Shaquille O'Neal among those making appearances.
