Bruce Lee's 'The Silent Flute' aka 'Circle Of Iron' Gets Another Big Screen Treatment

This is…interesting. Variety reports that producer Paul Maslansky (“The Russia House,” “Police Academy”) will develop “The Silent Flute,” a martial arts feature film based on an original treatment written by Bruce Lee prior to his death in 1973.

Maslansky previously produced a film version of the treatment, the 1978 film “Circle of Iron,” (which starred David Carradine), but now Maslansky’s son, Sasha Maslansky is writing a brand new script based off of Lee’s treatment. The project has secured financing from Hong Kong-based Bey Logan’s B&E Prods.

“The Silent Flute will be an epic martial arts adventure film that promises to honor Bruce Lee’s original artistic integrity,” Paul Maslansky said. “It also promises to reach new levels of action and adventure never before seen in martial arts filmmaking.” Those are some pretty bold proclamations dude.

The original “Circle of Iron,” “centered a martial artist rebel on a quest for the “Book of Enlightenment” and the various trials that educate him in Zen philosophy.” Originally, Bruce Lee had written a part for himself as the reluctant mentor, but after his passing, the role went to Carradine. The film also starred Christopher Lee, Roddy McDowall and Eli Wallach. There’s no word of casting yet but perhaps something a little less…..corny? (See trailer below).

This isn’t the only project Maslansky is returning to the well for another re-do. It was previously announced that he would be rebooting the “Police Academy” franchise as well. Hooray. –Sara Laurence
