Shailene Woodley can afford to be choosy. The fast rising star has proven herself in a string of acclaimed indie films, and this year she showed she’s a major box office draw, knocking out two big hits with YA franchise "Divergent" and teen weepie "The Fault In Our Stars." But she’s growing up a bit for her next role.
The actress is joining Oliver Stone‘s brewing Edward Snowden film, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead role. Based on Luke Harding’s "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man" and Anatoly Kucherena‘s "Time of the Octopus," the movie chronicles Snowden’s flight from the U.S. to Hong Kong, where he met with journalist Glenn Grenewald and director Laura Poitras (Snowden doc "Citizenfour"), as his leak of NSA secrets came to light. Woodley will play Snowden’s girlfriend. Production starts in January. [THR]
Lolita Davidovich (haven’t heard that name in a while) and James Frain ("The Tudors," "Intruders") have come aboard the second season of HBO‘s "True Detective." They join Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Kelly Reilly, Michael Irby, Abigail Spencer, and Leven Rambin in the tale of "a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder." Davidovich will play Kitsch’s mom, a former showgirl who no longer turns the heads of men like she used to, but thinks her son is "God’s gift to women." Frain is "a ruthless police lieutenant." Jon Bernthal is adding up the numbers for "The Accountant." He joins Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, and J.K. Simmons in the movie about "a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as a deadly assassin." Gavin O’Connor directs. [The Wrap]
