After tackling warriors, superheroes, and historical epics, Gina Prince-Bythewood is going even bigger with “Children Of Blood And Bone,” Paramount’s adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel. The first trailer has arrived, introducing the sprawling world of Orïsha and a massive ensemble led by Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, and Tosin Cole, alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba, and Viola Davis.

Mbedu leads the film as a young woman embarking on a quest to restore magic to her people after it was violently taken from them. Alongside her brother, she forms an unlikely alliance with the son and daughter of Orïsha’s king, setting the group against a ruler determined to maintain his brutal grip on the kingdom.
Prince-Bythewood directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with Adeyemi, adapting the first installment of the author’s fantasy series for the screen. And while Paramount is clearly positioning this as a major new fantasy property, the filmmaker behind “The Woman King” feels like a natural fit for material built around resistance, power, family, and large-scale action.
Beyond its four young leads, Paramount has assembled one hell of a supporting cast. Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ejiofor, King, Elba, and Davis all appear, alongside Saniyya Sidney, Diaana Babnicova, Bukky Bakray, Ayra Starr, Shamz Garuba, Kola Bodunde, Pamilerin Afolake Ayodeji, and Tèmítópé Fágbénlé.
Wyck Godfrey, John Fischer, Isaac Klausner, Karen Rosenfelt, and Matt Jackson produce the film, with Adeyemi, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Marty Bowen, Jeff Waxman, Jennifer Madeloff, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, Andrew Lary, Sophie Cassidy, and Zack Conroy among the executive producers.
