Newly Free From The MCU, Chris Evans Signs On To Co-Star With Daniel Craig In Rian Johnson's 'Knives Out'

Fresh off of breaking hearts around the world earlier today with one simple tweet, actor Chris Evans has already lined up a new post-“Avengers 4” gig, which finds the actor teaming up with James Bond to solve a murder. Well, kind of.

Deadline is reporting that Evans has signed on to co-star in the upcoming film “Knives Out,” which stars Daniel Craig, of ‘Bond’ fame. The film marks the first project for writer-director Rian Johnson after “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and is about as far away from a big-budget superhero film or space opera as you can get. The film is said to be a modern-day whodunnit murder mystery that follows the classic style of works by Agatha Christie.

This is quite the departure for Evans. As mentioned, he recently wrapped up filming “Avengers 4,” and fandom is still reeling from the news. Now, it appears that he’s rushing into his next project with Johnson and Craig, and has a slate of upcoming films that signal no return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while to come. In addition to “Knives Out,” the actor has a thriller titled “The Red Sea Diving Resort” and Neill Blomkamp’sGreenland” after that. But first, he’s going to help Craig and Johnson with their murder mystery.

“Knives Out” is a film that seems to have spawned from a combination of luck and circumstance. When the film was announced, Johnson was happy that everything came together, with him having time before he jumps into another “Star Wars” project. Then Craig became available due to the sudden departure of Danny Boyle from ‘Bond 25,’ which has delayed filming. Now, Evans is available thanks to ‘Avengers 4’ being wrapped and having a short amount of time between that and his next film.

Hopefully, with star power from Craig and Evans leading the way, Johnson can attract more great actors and “Knives Out” can suddenly become one of the most-anticipated films for 2019.
