Claire Denis Finishes Production On 'Stars At Noon' Which Might Lead To 2 Features From The Director Next Year

2021 may have been The Pandemic: Part II for many people, as we experienced yet another year of being cautious when you leave the house, as to not get sick. But for Claire Denis, 2021 was a pretty damn productive year, all things considered, as she not only finished production on her next feature, “Fire,” but apparently, she’s already wrapped up production on her next-next film, “The Stars at Noon.” Does this mean 2022 is going to give film fans a double dose of Denis?

According to a social media post from actress Margaret Qualley, it would appear that production has wrapped on the new Claire Denis film, “Stars at Noon.” For those who haven’t been keeping up with the Claire Denis news, “Stars at Noon,” is the film that was supposed to go into production right around the start of the pandemic with Robert Pattinson and Qualley. However, it (like everything else) was delayed for more than a year and began production earlier this fall with Taron Egerton replacing Pattinson. So, that would presumably be ready for next year, around fall festival time, right?

But wait, you might say, that’s only one film! What about the other film, “Fire,” you mentioned above? Ah, well, this is where things get extra exciting for Claire Denis fans.

When “Stars at Noon” was delayed (at the time, it was unsure when it might actually happen), Denis started to put together another project to film in the first half of 2021, titled “Fire,” which stars Juliette Binoche. And so, that film began work in the spring and apparently wrapped up production well before “Stars at Noon.” This means, as of this writing, Denis has one film presumably in the can (or at least deep in the post-production process) and another just wrapped. Thus, the “double dose of Denis” we can hopefully expect in 2022.

Of course, without official release dates, it’s impossible to know how this will all shake out. Maybe ‘Stars’ will be pushed to 2023, to spread the Denis love. Maybe we’ll get “Fire” in time for Cannes and then ‘Stars’ in the late fall? Lots of options, it would seem. But for now, let’s just be excited about all this Denis goodness coming our way.

While we don’t have a trailer for “Fire” just yet, you can see some first-look images below:
