'Crooked House' Trailer With Glenn Close & Christina Hendricks

There are a couple of us Playlisters are who bonafide Agatha Christie dorks, so news that we’re getting two big screen adaptations of her novels in the next few months is Marvel level exciting. Of course, Kenneth Branagh‘s star-studded “Murder On The Orient Express” is taking up most of the bandwidth, but “Crooked House” looks like it could be the sleeper favorite of the pair. Even better, it doesn’t have Johnny Depp.

Instead we get Glenn Close, Max Irons, Julian Sands, Christina Hendricks, Gillian Anderson, Terence Stamp and Christian McKay in this Jullian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey“) penned tale, set in the 1950s, where a young woman hires her ex-lover to investigate the murder of her grandfather. Naturally, family secrets will come to surface. Here’s the logline:

Based on the novel by Agatha Christie, private detective Charles Hayward is invited to solve a gruesome crime where nobody is above suspicion, including Sophia, his client and former lover.

Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner (“Sarah’s Key,” “Dark Places“) this sounds like our cup of tea (literally, because we’ll probably have a cuppa while watching this). “Crooked House” hits VOD on November 21st and opens in theaters on December 22nd.
