'The Dark Knight" Reaches $500 Million Domestically Over Weekend

Apparently the American public cannot get enough Batman, because over the Labor Day weekend “The Dark Knight” cracked the $500 million mark, and its domestic box-office now stands at $502 million. It is only the second film ever to reach the half-billion mark domestically, with the other being James Cameron’s 1997 “Titanic.” “The Dark Knight” is the fastest to ever reach the mark, making it in only six weeks, which is half the time it took “Titanic.”

Even with quick climb of “The Dark Knight,” Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros., says the film will fail to reach the $600 million “Titanic” raked in, and its total gross will most likely land between $530 and $550 million.
It seems as though even overseas movie goers can also identity with bat-themed vigilante justice, since “The Dark Knight” has put up an impressive $416 million in its international theatrical run, putting its worldwide gross close to an billion dollars with an astounding $919 million. ‘TDK’ now sits at the #9 position on the all-time worldwide box-office chart (that’s not adjusted for inflation; there it would sit at #29).
