'Dear Santa': Jack Black Reteams With 'Shallow Hal' Filmmakers For A New Holiday Comedy

Remember “Shallow Hal?” That’s the comedy from the Farrelly Brothers that stars Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow. But what it’s really remembered for is being incredibly offensive with the use of a fat suit and never-ending weight jokes. Well, good news! The folks who brought you “Shallow Hal” are ready to team up again for a new holiday comedy, “Dear Santa.”

According to Deadline, Jack Black is set to star in the upcoming comedy film, “Dear Santa,” which will be directed by Bobby Farrelly, who is also producing alongside his brother, Peter, and Jeremy Kramer. The film is said to tell the story of a young boy who wants to send Santa a letter for Christmas. However, in a mixup of epic proportions, the letter ends up getting sent to Satan instead. You see, just a simple spelling error and Santa turns into Satan. Silly kid.

Joining Black in the cast are Robert Timothy Smith, Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Hayes MacArthur, PJ Byrne newcomer Jaden Carson Baker, Kai Cech, and Austin Post

Black is currently prepping for the release of his next film, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” where he voices the villain Bowser. He also has another film, “Borderlands,” which should be arriving sometime this year, as well.

Bobby Farrelly just recently released his new comedy film, “Champions,” which stars Woody Harrelson. That film marked the first that Bobby Farrelly directed solo, having previously helmed filmed alongside his brother. It’s unclear when the film might begin production, but you have to assume it won’t be ready in time for this holiday season, so a 2024 release seems more likely.
