Disney+ Teams With 'Burn Notice' Creator For New Streaming Series Based On 'Turner & Hooch'

If you’re a fan of buddy cop films involving dogs, you’re either Team “Turner & Hooch” or Team “K-9.” But let’s be real, there’s only one right side in that battle, as Tom Hanks’ “Turner & Hooch” is on a whole different level than the poor imitation from Jim Belushi. And thankfully, Disney+ knows this and is turning the superior buddy cop/dog film into a new streaming series.

According to Deadline, Disney+ has hired Matt Nix to develop a new streaming series based on the film “Turner & Hooch.” As mentioned, the 1988 film stars Tom Hanks as a tough guy cop that is teamed with a dog named Hooch. They develop a friendship and have an incredible adventure together. I mean, what would you expect from that type of film in the late-‘80s?

Nix is probably best known as the creator of the popular USA Network series “Burn Notice.” Most recently, however, Nix worked with Fox on the TV series, “The Gifted,” which was a spin-off of the ‘X-Men’ superhero film franchise and aired for two seasons before it was canceled.

Disney+ hasn’t been shy about its desire to take popular films and remake them for a new generation. Recently, it was announced that the streaming service is remaking “Home Alone,” as well as new versions of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” and a spin-off of “Love, Simon.” Disney+ is also going to release a female-focused version of “High Fidelity” in 2020.

Basically, if you’re even a modest hit comedy film in the Disney vault, then you’re probably going to be rebooted or remade at some point for the streaming platform. But hey, while most reboots and remakes are entirely unnecessary, “Turner & Hooch” could be a lot of fun. So, we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.
