'Dumb Money': Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan & Pete Davidson Join Craig Gillespie's GameStop Stock Movie

Earlier this year, “Cruella” director Craig Gillespie signed on to adapt Ben Mezrich‘s “The Antisocial Network,” all about the infamous 2021 GameStop short squeeze, into a feature film. Gillespie now has his cast ready for the movie, which has a new title: “Dumb Luck.” So, who will star in the epic WallStreetBets story?

Deadline reports that Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, and Pete Davidson are all set to star in the upcoming film. Who each actor plays in the comedic Wall Street saga is anyone’s guess right now.  Black Bear plans to launch the film’s sale at the Toronto International Film Festival later this month, while production won’t begin until October. So, expect more conclusive casting details once production is underway later this Fall.

Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman, who co-produces the film with Gillespie and Ryder Picture Company‘s Aaron Ryder, couldn’t be more excited for the film. “Black Bear has diamond hands for “Dumb Money,” Schwarzman said, “Lauren [Schuker Blum] & Rebecca [Angelo] have masterfully adapted Ben Mezrich’s exceptional book, detailing one of the greatest underdog stories of our time. Craig Gillespie is a tremendous leader with exceptional vision, and has assembled a tremendous ensemble. We’re honored to partner with him, Aaron Ryder, and this terrific team in front and behind the camera to bring “Dumb Money” to audiences everywhere.”

Gillespie recently directed Rogen and Stan in Hulu‘s “Pam & Tommy.” Given the show’s success, including three Emmy nominations, the trio wanted to work together again soon. Now they do with “Dumb Money.” Rogen also stars in Steven Spielberg‘s “The Fabelmans,” which has its world premiere at TIFF this month. As for Stan, he starred in “Fresh” earlier this year and has “Sharper” and “A Different Man,” two A24 movies, upcoming.

Meanwhile, Dano’s recent credits include The Riddler in Matt Reeves‘s “The Batman,” and stars alongside Rogen in “The Fabelmans.” Davidson just starred in the A24 millennial slasher “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” Up next, he has the romantic comedy “Meet Cute” with Kelly Cuoco, hitting Peacock on September 21. Davidson is currently in production on “Bupkis,” another Peacock project with Joe Pesci and Edie Falco.

Gillespie has had his hands full this year directing episodes of “Pam & Tommy” and another Hulu limited series, “Mike,” about heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. With “Dumb Money,” he puts off his untitled “Cruella” sequel a little longer.

Expect “Dumb Money” to have a late 2023 theatrical release. Just in time for awards season? Time will tell on that.
