‘The Eddy’ Teaser: Damien Chazelle Takes The Musical Pulse Of Paris In New Netflix Show

Nearly 40 years ago, Joel Grey’s ghostly-faced master of ceremonies beckoned “Willkommen” to the Berlin masses venturing out of the cold and into the Kit Kat Klub to view bawdy entertainment under the specter of the Third Reich. Thirty years later, the sultry Satine (Nicole Kidman) serenaded dozens of cash-in-hand, tuxedoed gentlemen with her rendition of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in “Moulin Rouge!” Now, prepare to venture into the same kind of establishment in the upcoming Netflix series “The Eddy,” where all you may need to know can be found right on the dance floor.

It could not be more apt that the show is one of the creative outputs from the mind of dynamic director of all things music Damien Chazelle. Bringing Miles Teller’s worst nightmare of a teacher to life and to an Oscar in “Whiplash” and re-envisioning the classical Hollywood musical extravaganza in “La La Land” are two of the biggest accomplishments for this still-young Academy Award winner himself. Chazelle is joined on this TV project by Jack Thorne, co-screenwriter of the recent films “The Aeronauts” and “Wonder” and who co-wrote the Tony Award winner “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Andre Holland (“Moonlight” & “The Knick”) portrays club owner Elliot Udo. He is joined by a diverse cast that includes Polish actress Joanna Kulig (“Cold War”), the French-Algerian acting pair of Tahar Rahim (“The Kindness of Strangers”) and Leila Bekhti (“The Source”), Australian Melissa George (“The Amityville Horror” & “In Treatment”), and up-and-coming American actress Amandla Stenberg (“The Hate U Give”).
