NBC Decides To Keep 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards In September

Hollywood may be in the thick of guild and Oscar voting, but the Television Academy knows Emmy season is right around the corner.  This morning they announced, along with this year’s broadcaster NBC, that the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018.

NBC will broadcast the ceremony live from 8-11 p.m ET / 5-8 p.m. PT from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Best and Worst of the 2017 Emmy Awards

The Emmys currently still rotate between the four major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX) and each network has a say on the airdate based on their own schedule needs. The last three times NBC has broadcast the Emmys the show took place in August.  That will no longer be the case this time around.  The one change NBC is making is airing the awards on Monday as opposed to Sunday.  That will put it up against ABC’s “Monday Night Football” and potentially cause some late arrivals due to early rush hour traffic, but the last time NBC on a Monday (granted, in August 2014) it resulted in the second highest rating over the past 15 years.

NBC’s 2014 telecast was hosted by Seth Meyers who is also hosting this year’s Golden Globes.  Jimmy Fallon hosted in 2010.  The Television Academy and NBC noted that a host and a producer will be announced at a later time.
