Empire Strikes Back With New Looks At The Light & Dark Sides In ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

nullMaybe it’s just that it’s not a superhero movie, but even the most hardened cynic must be feeling a little bit excited about the upcoming arrival of the return to the “Star Wars” universe with “The Force Awakens.” The cast is great (John Boyega! Oscar Isaac! Gwendoline Christie!), the early teasers have been good, and everyone involved seems legitimately excited about what’s coming: poster artist Drew Struzan recently said that the film is “probably going to be the best Star Wars you’ve ever seen.”

Though so much of the film remains under wraps still, J.J. Abrams’ mystery box lets out a few drips and drabs every so often, and the latest is a new look at the main characters from the cover of the latest issue of Empire Magazine, which lands next week.

Split into the light side and the dark side, the striking images provide new looks at Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, and, as far as villains go, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, and, under masks, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma.

It’s not giving a huge amount away, but it’s just a little more to gear you up for the new movie, which is now less than four months away (a new trailer’s likely to arrive in the next six weeks or so, we imagine). Even Harrison Ford’s excited, according to a recent EW piece, with writer Lawrence Kasdan saying, “He lit up the whole place. He was so funny and warm and helpful to the young people, and generous with his old costars… I don’t know. It was kind of miraculous.” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens December 18th.
