Evangeline Lilly Says 'Ant-Man & Wasp' Post-Credits Snap Scene Was Shortened Because "We Totally Blew It"

If you don’t know what happened at the end of “Avengers: Infinity War,” then you’ve probably been in a coma for the last six months. So, in that case, welcome back and get ready to have the film spoiled. For the rest of humanity, we all know about Thanos’ snap heard around the world…err, universe.

In the closing moments of ‘Infinity War,’ half the universe disintegrates into ash, as audiences watched in horror. And in the follow-up film to ‘Infinity War,’ “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” we saw just how that snap affected characters that weren’t part of the major conflict. But according to a new interview with Wasp actress, Evangeline Lilly, there was more to the ‘AM&W’ snap moment that didn’t make the final cut. And for good reason.

First, Lilly explains, in an interview with CBR, just how little the “Ant-Man and the Wasp” actors and director Peyton Reed knew about what was going to happen in ‘Infinity War.’

‘At the time, we still didn’t really entirely know what exactly that was, and it’s because we hadn’t seen or been a part of shooting ‘Infinity War.’ We really didn’t know what it was supposed to look like, either! And so, we were in this sort of awkward position of shooting something that — we knew, like, the basic idea,” Lilly explains.

She continued, “I don’t think Peyton really even knew what that was supposed to look like or be, because none of us had been a part of ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’”

So, with only a basic idea of the effect of Thanos’ snap, the actors did their best to show what they thought their characters would do as they turned into ash. Unfortunately, it appears they contradicted the emotional impact that the snap had in ‘Infinity War.’ There were definitely no “I don’t feel so good” moments.

“I kind of got a giggle when I saw the final product, because they basically just cut our reactions out completely and cut to ash, which is, of course, much more dramatic and worked very well for the scene, but also is probably a result of the fact that we totally blew it. [laughs] None of [us] knew what we were doing! I think we made it look a little bit more like an ascension to heaven [rather] than any sort of negative and scary happening,” she said.

It appears that Lilly and the rest of the ‘Ant-Man’ cast will get a chance for redemption as they are expected to be part of “Avengers 4.” Hopefully, Marvel let them know more about the plot during that production.
