Ewan McGregor Joins 'Fargo' Season 3 In Dual Roles

Ewan McGregor‘s career has been a fascinating one. He broke out thanks to the double whammy of “Shallow Grave” and “Trainspotting,” the latter of which is now filming a sequel, two decades later. And the actor has moved between tiny, arthouse movies and big blockbusters, most famously playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the “Star Wars” prequels. Not only is he talented (his directorial debut, “American Pastoral,” will be released later this year), but McGregor tends to have many options in front of him at any given time, and while he’s once again playing Renton for Danny Boyle, he’s not necessarily ready to return to a galaxy far, far away.

“I made three movies amongst 70  or how many others  and that’s what they were to me. They are three movies amongst a bunch of other ones. And I was very happy with them and I was very happy to have been in them. And I liked they were films children could watch for the first time in my career. Most of the films up until then, children wouldn’t have been allowed to watch, or shouldn’t have watched,” he recently told Magic Radio (via Comic Book Movie) “So, that was interesting. And I was very happy to have been in them. That’s where it ends for me. I don’t have a burning need to do it again, or any sort of fascination for the movies that everyone else has. I don’t really have that. Maybe it’s because I’ve been in them and I’ve seen behind the curtain. Know what I mean? It doesn’t have the same sort of… wonderment to me.”

Fair play. So what is stoking McGregor’s fire at the moment? TV. Specifically, joining the third season of “Fargo,” and even more, playing dual roles. The new season will be set in 2010, a few years following the events of season one, and McGregor brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy, who are not twins. Here’s the official description of his role (via EW):

Emmit Stussy is the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. A handsome, self-made, real estate mogul and family man, Emmit sees himself as an American success story. His slightly younger brother, Ray Stussy, on the other hand is more of a cautionary tale. Balding, pot-bellied, Ray is the kind of guy who peaked in high school. Now a parole officer, Ray has a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt, and he blames his brother, Emmit, for his misfortunes.

Sounds like it’s going to be a blast for McGregor to play two polar opposite siblings. “Fargo” season 3 will arrive in 2017.
