Even though the “Evil Dead” remake was a remorselessly dull and dumb movie, it seems there is a certain faction of people how are still legitimately interested in an “Army Of Darkness” sequel. Lord knows it has been talked about forever, but it seems there is a minor head of steam building around the project.
First off, the notoriously chatty Bruce Campbell told an audience at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con directly when asked if he would reprise his role as Ash Williams, “Alright sir, the answer is yes.” That was after speculating how the advanced age of the character would be explained in the film.
“Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath,” he said jokingly. “Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.”
Meanwhile, Fede Alvarez, the man responsible for the “Evil Dead” redo, recently announced on Twitter when asked by a fan, that Sam Raimi would be helming “Army Of Darkness 2.” And how does Alvarez know anything about this? Well, maybe he’s still getting memos from Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures or something.
All this to say, we wouldn’t hold our breath on this happening as everyone involved has been known to talk way out of turn and make promises for years now. So, yeah, we’ll see…. [THR/FirstShowing]
