Kevin Feige Promises Different Incarnations Of Popular Heroes In The Post-'Avengers 4' Marvel Universe

After nine years of breaking box office records and amassing a rabid fanbase, Marvel Studios has outdone itself in 2018. With “Black Panther” dominating pop culture and “Avengers: Infinity War” on the cusp of $2 billion worldwide, Marvel Studios is having the best year of its decade-long existence. And that’s all thanks to one man – Kevin Feige.

The producer-extraordinaire is the man behind the scenes, pulling all the strings, and steering the massive ship as Marvel Studios continues its dominance. And with the end of the first chapter almost written, with ‘Avengers 4’ in 2019, everyone is dying to know what’s in store for Phase 4 of the MCU. According to Feige, there’s a lot of changes around the corner.

Recently, Feige spoke at the Produced By conference, where he was asked questions about the past, present, and future of the MCU. When the questions were asked about Phase 4, and a post-‘Avengers 4’ MCU, the producer was cryptic, but said to expect continuing stories of heroes you know, brand-new characters you will be introduced to, and different incarnations of ones you already are familiar with.

The “different incarnations” part of the answer is what has many people speculating. It’s widely assumed that ‘Avengers 4’ will end with some serious deaths (either Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, or all of the above), so this leads to a lot of possibilities. Will Cap’s shield get passed on to Falcon or Bucky? Will there be another person in the Iron Man suit? And perhaps someone else will pick up Mjolnir and become Thor?

In addition to the new versions of existing characters, Feige specifically talked about one new hero he’s anxious to introduce – Ms. Marvel. For those that don’t know, Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is a teenage Muslim girl, who becomes a superhero after being inspired by Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. Feige said that Ms. Marvel is definitely going to make her debut soon, but they want to do it right.

“We wanted to get Captain Marvel out there first so that there is something for a young Muslim girl to get inspired by,” he said.

The producer also talked about the future of the MCU, in regards to the filmmakers behind the camera. While he wouldn’t guarantee that the next 20 movies would be directed by females, he did say that “a heck of a lot” of the upcoming MCU films will have female filmmakers at the helm.

And lastly, Feige mentioned that when he saw “Black Panther” for the first time, he said it was the “best movie we’ve ever made.” And he then went to Ryan Coogler and said that the director has “made us a better studio.” High praise, indeed.
