The best thing Charlie Cox figured out after Netflix’s “The Defenders” series wasn’t a new stunt or a new suit; it was that Marvel fans were already obsessed with the push-pull chemistry between Matt Murdock and Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones. And now — finally — Marvel is putting that two-person blunt-force dynamic back on the board, with Entertainment Weekly revealing a first look at Jones in “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2.

“Just by the nature of who Jessica is and who Matt is, they both give as much as they get,” Cox said. “I’m not sure we were aware of it when we were shooting it. So we’ve been really waiting for this opportunity for so long now to put these two on screen together and have more fun with them.”
Season 2 arrived with the city already in a vice. In the Season 1 finale, Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) seized control of New York, outlawed vigilantism, and essentially turned Daredevil into public enemy number one. Now Matt is in full Nick Fury mode, building his own resistance, which is where Jessica’s “wise-ass strongwoman sleuth” enters the picture — a ringer who can crack skulls, crack jokes, and drink all of Manhattan under the table.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane reportedly drew inspiration from the French Revolution as a guiding reference point for the season’s mood, and Cox suggested that the atmosphere isn’t just political dread, but also personal paranoia. “It feels like one misstep and loved ones disappear,” he said. “You are taken, there’s no way out. It’s a very claustrophobic world.”
Season 2 also expanded the circle. Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page stepped into a bigger role this time — secret hideouts, disguises, wig work and all — and Cox sounded genuinely jazzed about where the character was headed. “Her role is the best it’s ever been,” he said. “She is a badass in season 2. We get to see a side of Karen Page which I think Charlie and also Matt Murdock have always known is beneath that surface.”
There’s still a ghost in the room, too. Elden Henson returned as Foggy Nelson, even as the character remained dead, with the loss hanging over Matt’s crusade. And yes, “The Punisher” question is on the table: Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum kept things tight, but did confirm that the upcoming Punisher TV special is set in the same world and timeframe. “The Punisher TV special really does connect into the time and place that Daredevil: Born Again season 2 takes place,” he said. Winderbaum also noted Jon Bernthal was developing that one-off event with “We Own This City” director Reinaldo Marcus Green for Disney+.
As for Jessica’s role, specifics stayed under wraps, but Winderbaum did offer a useful comparison point: she had a presence comparable to Bernthal’s Punisher in Season 1. And Cox made it clear the reunion wasn’t about reinventing the wheel — it was about delivering the friction fans were already waiting on. “We both talked about it being important to play some of the hits, as it were, make sure that we have that same dynamic,” he said. “Tongue in cheek, take the piss out of each other, but also get down to business and make sure that we’re serving the story appropriately.”
New faces also joined Fisk’s orbit, including Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles, another power player, and Lili Taylor as New York governor Marge McCaffrey. Winderbaum framed Seasons 1 and 2 as two halves of a single larger design. “It all feels like one story,” he said. “It is one giant, amazing tapestry that Dario is weaving together here in this New York landscape.”
