'First Omen': Nell Tiger Free To Star In Prequel To 'The Omen' Horror Series

Nell Tiger Free had her first break-out TV role in “Game Of Thrones” as doomed scion Myrcella Lannister. But she really grabbed viewers’ attention in her starring role on Apple TV+‘s “Servant,” with its fourth and final season still to come. Now, Free is ready to jump onto the big screen, as Deadline reports she’ll star in “First Omen,” 20th Century Studio‘s prequel to “The Omen” horror movie series.

“First Omen” is Free’s first leading role in a major studio film, her only other film credits being 2012’s “Broken” and last year’s “Settlers” with Sofia Boutella. Story-wise, not much is known about the upcoming film, but Arkasha Stevenson takes over for “The Devil All The Time” director Antonio Campos to direct her feature debut. Stevenson also rewrites the script with writing partner Tim Smith.

Expect story input from David Goyer, too, as he co-produces the film through Phantom Four. Goyer’s writing/story credits include the “Blade” series, Christopher Nolan‘s “Dark Knight” trilogy, and David Bruckner‘s upcoming “Hellraiser” reboot.  Keith Levine also produces through Phantom Four, with Gracie Wheelan overseeing.

“The Omen” is the latest horror franchise to get a rebirth of sorts in recent years, following the likes of “Halloween,” “Scream,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “Hellraiser.”  Richard Donner‘s original 1976 film starred Gregory Peck as an American ambassador who’s convinced his five-year-old son is the Antichrist. The film was a box-office success, taking in $60 million domestically. Its two sequels didn’t fare quite as well with audiences. 1978’s “Damien: The Omen II” made only $26.5 million, while 1981’s “Omen III: The Final Conflict” earned $20.5 million. A fourth movie, the made-for-TV “Omen IV: The Awakening,” was released in 1991. A 2006 reboot of the series made $120 million worldwide.

Free still the fourth season of “Servant” left to film. Her other credits include Nicolas Winding Refn‘s 2019 Amazon series “Too Old To Die Young,” which she starred in with Miles Teller. But will Free outdo her riveting performance in “Servant” in “First Omen”? Audiences likely won’t find out until 2024.
