'Game Of Thrones' Welcomes Ed Sheeran, Season 8 Will Be Super Short

How devoted are fans of “Game Of Thrones”? They literally watched a block of ice melt last week online, before the first teaser for season seven dropped. There are only a precious number of episodes of the hit show left before it’s all over and devotees are going to have to savor every moment — even if they include Ed Sheeran.

Yep, the hitmaking pop star will make an appearance during season seven. Don’t worry, it will probably just be a (distracting?) cameo, not unlike previous guest turns by Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon. Still, Sheeran has a level of stardom and recognition far beyond all those artists combined, but then again, he could be caked in makeup for all we know.

“For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie [Williams, who’s a big fan] and this year we finally did it,” series co-producer/writer David Benioff said. I guess another bucket list dream crossed off the list.

Meanwhile, it’s also been revealed that season eight will run a scant six episodes. So luxuriate in the nine episode long, “Game Of Thrones” season seven, but the sand in the hourglass is going to quickly diminish from here on out. [EW/Uproxx]
